A meeting marked by the common will to continue to help Ukraine against the aggressor. Biden praised historic German shifts in securing decisive military support and moral support for Ukraine. In addition to the supply of weapons, Berlin has managed to untie its energy supplies from the Russian ones.
There was only talk of Ukraine while the China dossier was touched only on feared military support for Russia. According to what La Stampa writes, Washington is seeking the consent of the Europeans to move with sanctions, and EU diplomatic sources have confirmed that "Brussels will fall in line should there be evidence of a Chinese lethal role". Chinese companies active in contributing, with their products, to the Russian military effort would enter the crosshairs of the sanctions.
In the ongoing war Germany is a key partner for the United States because it is the second contributor with $15 billion. In Berlin a few hours ago a demonstration of 13 people emphasized the debates underway in the Bundestag on concern about the duration of the contribution to Ukraine. In the US, only 48% of public opinion is in favor of the perpetual sending of aid to the Ukraine while the Congress begins to discuss exit strategy favoring, however, a just and lasting peace for Kiev, guaranteeing at the same time an umbrella of international protection to avoid further wishful thinking by Moscow.
