Meng Hongwei, president of Interpol, passed away: "China give us answers"

Interpol formally asked Beijing for news of the president of the International Criminal Police Organization, Meng Hongwei, who has disappeared since September 29. According to the South China Morning Post newspaper, Meng, 64, the first Chinese to become president of Interpol, would be taken over as soon as he landed in China last week. "We expect official responses from the Chinese authorities regarding our concerns," reads an Interpol statement.

His wife, who reported the disappearance on October 4, lost contact with him from the 25 September day whose Meng had to leave for China. French police are investigating the disappearance, as Interpol's headquarters are in Lyon, France, where Meng's wife reported.

According to the AFP news agency from an anonymous source, the last time Meng was seen was no longer on French soil.

An anonymous source in the South China Morning Post, a Hong Kong newspaper, revealed that Meng would be arrested by the Chinese authorities as soon as he arrived in China from France. The reasons for his arrest or where he is being held are not known.
