School, discounts for teachers who serve in mountain areas

Minister Valditara: "Equality initiative to guarantee coverage in disadvantaged territories"

The Council of Ministers has given the green light to the bill for the promotion of mountain areas which regulates, among other things, a series of benefits for teachers who work in mountain schools. In fact, the assignment of an additional score for the purposes of the provincial substitute rankings is envisaged for teachers "who have served in mountain schools, located in mountain areas which present a situation of particular socio-economic hardship". The national collective bargaining agreement will be responsible for determining the additional points for the mobility procedures of the teaching staff concerned.

School staff who work in mountain schools will also be granted a tax credit for the rental of properties, so as to cover part of the rental costs incurred.

“Together with Minister Calderoli, whom I thank for the sensitivity shown - states Giuseppe Valditara, Minister of Education and Merit -, we have carried out an initiative based on equity to guarantee greater protection in mountain areas. In a manner consistent with the Agenda Sud intervention plan, our commitment continues in favor of disadvantaged territories, so that no one is left behind. All students in Italy must enjoy the same services and opportunities, regardless of where they were born."
