School. Signed the DPCM on the training of secondary school teachers

Valditara: “Finally, a reform that has been expected for over a year has been launched. The teachers of the new courses will have a highly structured disciplinary and pedagogical training. The ability to motivate the kids and enhance their talents will be decisive"

The Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers was signed which defines the new initial training courses for teachers of the I and II level secondary schools. The provision was launched at the end of an articulated dialogue with the European Commission and after discussions with the trade union organizations and the acquisition of the opinions of the advisory bodies representing the school and academic worlds, of which many suggestions were incorporated and directions.

“With this Decree we have launched a reform of the PNRR that has been awaited for over a year. The signing of our articulated document as at 31 July, after close and constructive discussions with the European Commission and in full agreement with the Ministry of Universities, makes it possible to start university courses as early as the next academic year and, in coordination with the other recruitment, the competitions foreseen by the PNRR”, declared the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara.

“Thanks to these measures we will have a new generation of highly structured teachers, backed by an important disciplinary and pedagogical training course and evaluation mechanisms that will guarantee teaching effectiveness. This new course is a leap forward in terms of teaching quality and the construction of a school that is truly a point of reference for families and students”, underlined Minister Valditara.

The standard training path requires the acquisition of at least 60 CFU (University Training Credits)/CFA (Academic Training Credits). The other courses, equal to 30 or 36 training credits, are aimed at those who have already carried out a service of at least three school years and those who have achieved 24 CFU/CFA according to the previous regulations.

The other main points of the DPCM:

  • There is a rigorous accreditation system entrusted to the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System (ANVUR), which defines the content paths, the monitoring procedures on the qualitative level of training and the final evaluation of aspiring teachers.
  • All new courses will end with the final exam: a written test and a simulated lesson, the passing of which will guarantee candidates the achievement of the professional training outlined by the minimum standards of the qualified teacher, thanks to the methods of carrying out the test and the specific composition scheduled for the selection board.
  • The training courses will be subject to a periodic "ex post" evaluation by ANVUR which, to ensure homogeneity of the quality of the training offer by the universities, will take into account the "success rate" of the new ones qualified for the recruitment procedures for the school.
