Marchesini di Rovigo: "strengthen dialogue between families and teachers to avoid episodes of violence"

Today the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara met the principal of the Viola-Marchesini higher education institution in Rovigo, Isabella Sgarbi, who he invited to Rome to find out more about the state of affairs after the episode in which some students shot a teacher with a rubber pellet gun, hitting her in the face, and then posted the video on social media. The principal delivered all the documentation relating to the case and clarified the evolution of the story, in a very constructive climate in which the Minister wanted to strengthen the dialogue between the Ministry and the school to identify the critical issues together and study possible solutions, also considering the multiplication, in various Italian schools, of episodes of violence by students against teachers.
Minister Valditara underlined, finding the full consent of principal Sgarbi, the need to face this problem through the only effective way: to restore the educational pact between parents and teachers for the good of the children. "The Viola-Marchesini institute is an important educational reality in the area, and the teacher impressed by her students has 30 years of experience and a curriculum of absolute excellence", explained the principal, "these facts are unacceptable but they also represent a signal: it is urgent to always keep the dialogue between students and families active". Minister Valditara reiterated that "the educational message spreads first of all within the family, which the school cannot replace but can effectively support and assist: this is the profound meaning of the alliance between the educational institutions, the parents and the students. It is necessary that the dialogue between families and the teaching staff is based on mutual trust, because it is decisive for the success of the educational process to support the authority of the teachers at school".
Faced with the multiplication of serious phenomena of physical or verbal aggression and cyberbullying against teachers, the ministry intends to study a series of actions to solicit the educational co-responsibility of families, in an active and constant pact with the school, and make time the respect due to teachers and all school personnel is increasingly effective.
