Syria: Israeli fighter bombs an Iranian base under construction in Syria

According to media reports close to the Bashar al Assad regime, some Israeli fighters have bombed a military base that Iran is building in Syria, south of Damascus.

The raids, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, would have been conducted from Lebanese airspace and the missiles fired by Israeli fighters - five, according to some sources - would have hit an installation near the city of Al-Kiswa, located about 13 kilometers from the Syrian capital.

Already yesterday, Hezbollah TV, al Manar, had reported on Israeli flights in southern Lebanon. During the raids, according to Sky news Arabia, the Damascus anti-aircraft aircraft responded to Israeli fire, intercepting three missiles. No official comments from Israel while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that strong explosions were warned in the Damascus area and that electricity went out in different parts of the capital.

In recent weeks, the BBC revealed that Iran is building a permanent military base in Syria within a Damascus army installation near al-Kiswa. Satellite images dated January, May and October showed the progress of the works: at least three new structures would have been built since the beginning of the year, while two others have been renovated.
