An HH-139A helicopter intervened in the middle of the night to recover a 38-year-old man who was seriously injured on Pizzo San Michele, in the Monti Piacentini Regional Park, in the province of Avellino.

The military helicopter, one of the assets of the Armed Force always ready for take-off on the national territory also for this kind of transport, immediately took off from the military base of Pratica di Mare - home of the 85th SAR Center (Search and Rescue ) of the 15 ° Stormo - and quickly reached the inaccessible mountain area where the injured person was.

In close collaboration with the men of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps of Campania and thanks to the use of NVG (night vision goggles), the night vision devices supplied to the Air Force, the crew recovered the injured and he transferred him to the sports field of Avellino where he was subsequently entrusted to the specific care of 118.

This night's intervention was coordinated by the Aerospace Operations Command of Poggio Renatico (FE), in particular by the Operations Room of the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) of the Italian Air Operation Center, the command and control center of the Italian Air Force since which all operational activities of this kind are managed.

Tonight's is a tangible example of the flexibility of the military instrument in activities carried out in the civilian sphere with non-military purposes.

The 85th Center is one of the Departments of the 15 ° Stormo of the Italian Air Force which guarantees, 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, without interruption, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, competing, moreover, to activities of public utility such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of patients in danger of life and the rescue of seriously traumatized patients, operating even in marginal weather conditions. From its constitution to today, the crews of the 365 ° Stormo have saved more than 15 people in danger of life or in conditions of serious difficulty.
