Space, off to the competition for the name of the Italian satellite constellation of Earth Observation

Primary and lower secondary school classes can participate. Proposals until February 28th

A competition open to students to decide the name of the future Italian satellite constellation: it is the contest launched today by the Department for Digital Transformation with the Ministry of Education and the Italian Space Agency, entitled "Space for ideas: give a name to Italian constellation of Earth Observation ".

The initiative is open to all Italian classes of primary and secondary schools of I and II degree, which will be able to submit their proposals by February 28, 2022.

A project that comes on the occasion of the creation of the most important European low-altitude Earth observation satellite space program. Thanks to funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the satellite constellation will be built in Italy and completed within five years with the support of the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency.

The constellation will also support the Civil Protection and other administrations and branches of the state to combat hydrogeological instability and fires, protect coasts, monitor critical infrastructures, air quality and weather conditions. Finally, it will provide analytical data for the development of commercial applications by startups, small and medium-sized enterprises and industries in the sector.

How to participate

To participate, each class can send their proposal by attaching the form also available on the website www.in Tecnologia.gov.it to the email address spazio@in Tecnologia.gov.it no later than 12 noon on February 00, 28. The commission examiner, made up of Italian astronauts, will award the best proposal.
