Spied in Italy - Chinese surveillance firm wins contracts all over the world

With a parliamentary question the deputies Enrico Borgo e Philip Sensi ask for further information and repentance from Prime Minister Mario Draghi, being the National Authority for Security, Defense and the Interior on a contract entrusted to a Chinese company Hikvision. "Hikvision was accused of providing surveillance equipment to internment camps. There is an unacceptable risk that Hikvision, through its operations in Xinjiang, will contribute to serious human rights violations”, The deputies wrote on the question.

There is a precedent in Brussels when the Secretary General of the European Parliament was asked to terminate the contract with Hikvision and simultaneously remove all Chinese thermal cameras from the Parliament's premises.

The danger, aired by Italian and European parliamentarians, is that sensitive information and images, if not even covered by a classification of secrecy, could fall into the hands of a non-allied foreign power.

Also falling into the network of the advantageous offer of this company are the British authorities who are removing the Hikvision apparatuses present in the national Departments of Labor and Pensions, Health and Social Assistance, as well as the Ministry of Justice.

Americans have long been on the alert and the Defense Department has drawn up a list of twenty Chinese companies accused of having close ties with Beijing's government and military leaders.

The systems offered by Hikvision use cloud technology, thus allowing the probable spy to acquire and process, remotely and conveniently from any part of the world, a communication or a video in real time.

An eye and an ear of Beijing that sees and listens live everything that revolves around the security system, paradoxically, chosen and installed by ourselves.

The two Italian deputies therefore ask for greater attention and clarity in consideration of the measures envisaged by our legal system to ensure a high level of security of the networks, information systems and IT services of public administrations, as well as national and public entities and operators. and private individuals, through the establishment of a national cyber security perimeter and the provision of measures aimed at guaranteeing the necessary security standards aimed at minimizing risks.

Borghi and Sensi also emphasize that there would be thousands, in the Italian cyber domain, the Hikvision devices exposed on the net.
