Stoltenberg asks Seoul for help: "More ammunition is urgently needed"

The NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg was in Seoul to ask the president Yoon Suk Yeol, to increase military support to Ukraine. The request has become urgent because so much ammunition is needed in view of the Russian spring offensive. To date, Seoul has signed important agreements for the supply of tanks, aircraft and other weapons to Poland.

“If we believe in freedom and democracy, if we don't want to see autocracy and totalitarianism win, then they need weapons”, he emphasized Stoltenberg.

President Yoon Suk-yeol has, however, highlighted that the South Korean law against the direct supply of weapons to countries in conflict does not allow the supply of weapons to Kiev.

Stoltenberg he told the South Korean foreign minister Park Jin that North Korean support for Russia in the war in Ukraine urges us all to stand together by helping each other in shared security efforts: “I think that in a more unpredictable and uncertain world, it is even more important that countries that believe in freedom and democracy in a rules-based international order stand together. We are, of course, concerned about North Korea's reckless missile tests and nuclear programs. And the war in Ukraine also has ramifications for your region. And we also know that North Korea is providing military support to Russia's war efforts with rockets and missiles. And that just highlights how interconnected we are"
