Our intervention is made necessary by the need to clarify what happened between Angelo Ferrarese, Rls as well as RSU Usb, and the Commander of the Municipal Police of Taranto, Michele Matichecchia. Ferrarese simply asked for clarifications on the activities carried out by the agents during the checks carried out on the arrival of buses from outside the region.
Having said that, we believe we need to add some clarification, emphasizing first of all that the USB does not intend to get involved in the controversy of these hours between the commander Matichecchia and the municipal councilor of opposition Maximus Baptist, to whom this morning, when he contacted us, we confirmed that four workers were placed in a trust quarantine. The Union of Basic Trade Unions is autonomous with respect to matters within the Municipality and does not take orders from the majority or from the opposition, while trying to dialogue with everything and aiming for the search for truth. With the municipal administration of Taranto he tried to establish a frank and clear dialogue, based on constructive criticism and oriented towards the recognition of merits, if any. For this reason, we clearly reject the attempt to draw anything but useful confrontation into it.
We cannot, however, respond to the press release issued a few hours ago, signed by Commander Matichecchia, since the Base Union Union in that note is defined as "self-styled union with political aims".
What does it mean?
Our trade union organization between Taranto and the province has almost 5.000 members, and we feel offended by the expression used by the Commander. We are also the only union chosen by an overwhelming majority by the Municipal Police officers of Taranto. Evidently it should be clarified that the USB has as its sole objective the defense of the rights of workers who give them confidence and which therefore it represents. Never had political aims.
It should also be said that perhaps the members of the "self-styled union" have contributed to giving life to the current municipal administration.
What the USB does every day owes it to the registered workers, who are the true strength of the union.
We do union activity, we don't care about political activity.
If there are conflicting opinions between the Commander of the Municipal Police of Taranto and the city councilor of opposition Massimo Battista we are disinterested.
Here we close the sterile controversy, hoping that everything will go well. The only invitation that we believe we should make: those who play certain roles should lower their tone and try to nurture a peaceful dialogue ".
