Video: 7,1 magnitude earthquake makes southern Mexico tremble

A Richter scale magnitude 7,1 earthquake was recorded at 8 miles to Sudest Atencingo in Puebla State.

There is still no news on the magnitude of the damage, the US and Mexican news agencies reported that they had reported several violent shocks that "swayed the Mexican state capital's buildings, forcing thousands of people into the streets.

Alessandro Amato, a seismologist at the National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology, excluded the risk of tsunami because the earthquake occurred inland far from the coast, at least to 200 kilometers and the epicenter was located at a depth of about 50 kilometers.

Tony Gali, governor of Puebla, reported that "for now we have no news of deaths" but, according to Civilian Head of Civil Protection, Fausto Lugo, there would be several people trapped under the rubble of some collapsed buildings in Città of Mexico.

According to the Minister of the Interior of the State, Diodoro Carrasco, the bell towers of some churches have collapsed in the town of Cholula, famous for its numerous churches.

Today's earthquake was recorded just hours after many people participated in seismic drills organized across the nation on the anniversary of the devastating 1985 earthquake that killed thousands in Mexico City.
