A powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck north of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea in the night, which triggered a tsunami warning for nearby shores, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The northern coast of Honduras, near the epicenter of the earthquake, is sparsely populated. There have been no initial reports of injuries or land damage. A tsunami warning was launched by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and is in effect in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands after the earthquake.
