Terror at G7 in Canada: van kills pedestrians

A white van hit a sidewalk and hit a dozen pedestrians: at least 5 dead and several injured in what immediately appeared as a deliberate attack. The man abandoned the vehicle not far away and fled, but was captured shortly after by the police who in the meantime had isolated the area and closed the subway stations. It is not clear what the motive for the man's gesture is, even if the concomitance with the G7 ministerial meeting suggests a possible terrorist gesture. The attack took place around 13:30 local time, at the intersection of Yonge and Finch, in an office area in the north of the Canadian metropolis which is about thirty kilometers from the place where the G7 ministers met, including which the Italians Angelino Alfano and Marco Minniti. The van had been hired. The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, expressed his closeness to the victims: "Obviously our hearts are with all the people involved, we will know and say something more in the next few hours". The summit of the heads of state and government of the seven most industrialized countries will be held in Toronto in early June. The Crisis Unit of the Farnesina is working to verify what has happened and, in particular, the possible involvement of compatriots.
