Thyssen: "One of the two German managers in prison"

At the invitation of the Minister of Justice, Alfonso Bonafede, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Italy, HE Viktor Elbling, was received in via Arenula on Wednesday.

The interview dealt with the judicial affair that concerned the two German managers who were jointly responsible for the tragic accident that occurred in 2007 at the Thyssen Krupp plants in Turin, in which seven Italians lost their lives.

The Minister told the diplomat that he had learned of the methods of execution of the sentence - at the end of the long judicial process - through the media, and not through official communications, despite the institutional channels activated. The Minister, while aware of the autonomy of the Land North Rhine Westphalia with respect to the German federal system, wanted to represent to the Ambassador the pain of the relatives of the victims, met a few days ago.

Ambassador Elbling was keen to express sympathy for the pain of the families of the victims by the German government, assuring Minister Bonafede that what was represented during the interview would be promptly reported to Berlin and that a response will soon be provided by the competent authorities of the Land.

Today, confirmation has been received - from these authorities - that one of the two condemned has already entered prison.
