Turin: The concentration of fine dust reaches 114 micrograms per cubic meter

"Avoid opening doors and windows". This is the invitation launched by the Turin City Council after the Pm10 thin powder concentration is sketched at 114 micrograms per cubic meter, beyond the limit twice (50).

"In such a critical situation," the Environmental Assessor called on citizens to adopt a "series of precautions", limiting as much time as possible to spend time outdoors.

Chiara Appendino, mayor of Turin, speaking of the serious pollution situation in the city said: "No administrator likes to block cars, aware of creating possible inconvenience, but when you are faced with an emergency it is necessary to take of choices. Standing still is perhaps the easiest choice, but it is not what the City needs right now. Pollution cannot be eliminated with an ordinance, this is clear to everyone. The full cooperation of all citizens and of all citizens is a necessary condition to tackle the problem successfully, in the interest of the whole community. It is not by filling the city with checks that we think we can guarantee compliance with the ordinance but by appealing to the sense of responsibility of each of us. We did not exaggerate when we advised not to open the windows to limit heat loss. The average temperature the day before yesterday was 14 degrees, we try not to disperse the heat accumulated in the house and to limit the consumption of the heaters which, I remember again, we recommend keeping at a temperature of 19 degrees with a maximum tolerance of 2 degrees . We will proceed with environmental and mobility policies, totally ignored for years.

The hanger ended his intervention by asking the Piedmont Region and the other municipalities of the belt to observe the traffic blocks.
