Trapani, confiscated assets for about 21 million

The State Police and the Guardia di Finanza of Trapani have confiscated various real estate (52 apartments, 9 villas, 11 warehouses; 8 land; 19 garages) cars, current accounts and companies, for an estimated value of about 21.000.000 euros , against two entrepreneurs believed to have been in collusion with members of the "mafia families" of the province, active in the construction sector, who operated in the lucrative sector of works contracted out by public bodies in Sicily.

This provision was issued at the conclusion of analyzes conducted by the policemen of the Anticrime Division carried out jointly by the Anticrime Division and the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Trapani.

The results of these surveys highlighted the belonging of the two entrepreneurs to a group of entrepreneurs that "Cosa Nostra" used, on the mandate of the provincial representative Matteo MESSINA DENARO in order to exercise, for over a decade, the conditioning in the award phases of contracts, in the execution of works and supplies.

In particular, the mafia summit, managed through the same and other contiguous entrepreneurs, the mechanisms of illegal control over the awarding of public works and the execution of the works, providing that the awarded company pay a percentage to the corrupt public officials and the mafia family of Trapani.

From these elements derives the connotation of the entrepreneurial group, first seized and today confiscated, as an expression of the "Cosa Nostra" strategies of aggression against the procurement system, according to the directives given to the mafia faction Matteo Messina Denaro: the purpose was, ultimately, the pursuit of a strategy of hidden engulfment of tenders, of infiltration into entire productive sectors, as well as of the political and administrative system of this territory.
