Trieste: Operation "Eat Enjoy"

Dismantled international organization dedicated to cocaine and heroin drug trafficking

The investigations conducted by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Trieste Public Prosecutor and carried out by the State Police allowed the GIP of the Julian capital to issue an application order for the precautionary custody against 26 subjects, some of whom abroad, investigated for various reasons of association for committing crimes and possession of significant quantities of cocaine and heroin for drug dealing.

This is the important balance of over two years of investigations carried out by the Mobile Squads of the Trieste and Udine Police Headquarters, with the coordination of the Central Operational Service and the Central Directorate of Anti-Drug Services of the Ministry of the Interior; investigations were directed by the Trieste District Prosecutor as part of a procedural file for transnational trafficking of cocaine and heroin from Holland to Italy.

During the early hours of today's morning, in execution of an application order for precautionary measures issued by the Trieste investigating magistrate dr. Massimo TOMASSINI at the request of the PM of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Trieste dr. Massimo DE BORTOLI, owner of the file, arrests were made by the Trieste and Udine Mobile Teams, together with the Central Operational Service and the International Police Cooperation Service (with the employee Expert for Security in the Netherlands), with the support of the Mobile Squads of the Police Headquarters of Perugia, Genoa, Gorizia, Imperia, Grosseto, Pordenone, Savona, Lucca, Vicenza, Treviso; at the same time searches were carried out against other subjects by the Mobile Teams of the cities of Milan, Brescia and Piacenza.

There are 26 suspects affected by an order ordering pre-trial detention in prison or under house arrest. Among these, some are located abroad; one of the leaders of the organization was arrested in Holland.

The drug couriers, both Italian (a 40-year-old of Campania origin and a 62-year-old from Friuli), respectively residing in the provinces of Trieste and Udine, were headed by an Albanian organization whose headquarters for the sale of drugs was identified in the city of Rotterdam and with cells scattered in several Italian centers; the drug, introduced into the national territory hidden in cars equipped with double bottoms, was then delivered on the basis of the "market" needs to the various territorial referents who dealt with drug dealing.

Albanian nationals are the cells operating in Italy which are the recipients of the drug to be peddled in the areas of competence; all with the exception of two Italians, one from Liguria and the other from Calabria, identified in Arma di Taggia (IM).

In addition to the transfer of several kilograms of narcotic drugs to the various recipients belonging to the Albanian circuit, the two Italian couriers resident in Friuli managed autonomous dealer networks in favor of trusted customers residing in the province of Trieste and in the provinces of Vicenza, Treviso and Pordenone.

The investigations were initiated following the declarations made in January 2018 by the courier of Campania origin, married to an Albanian woman (also subjected to the measure of house arrest in the transaction in question) both residing in Duino (TS); the courier, worried by the accusation of the criminal organization, which he claims is unfounded, of having appropriated a load of 14 kg. of cocaine, after being held in Rotterdam and "interrogated" with brutal methods by his accomplices, intent on discovering the end of the missing cargo, returned to Italy (having his Albanian family members acquired, guaranteed for him by refounding, the loss of the cargo of cocaine, the criminal partnership with a few hundred thousand euros), on the advice of one of his relatives who was not a member of the criminal partnership, he went to the Police Headquarters of Udine where, in addition to the episode he had been victim of in Rotterdam, he told much of his own criminal activity of the previous 2017 as courier of the association dedicated to the trafficking of cocaine / heroin.

Provided details on the criminal context in which he operated, immediate investigative activities were initiated by the Mobile Squads of the Trieste and Udine Police Headquarters in response to the declarations of the Campanian, which, however, seemed substantially plausible from the outset, expected that the man accused himself of having brought into Italy, on behalf of the Albanian organization, about 750 kg of cocaine and heroin against considerable sums of money moved to Holland as a proceed from the sale of the drug; the transport of the narcotic drug and the cash payments was carried out within double floors obtained in cars prepared by the same criminal team, used by couriers and registered to them.

Having dismissed this subject, the investigations showed that his place was taken by his accomplice, a sixty-two year old man residing in Latisana (UD), who came forward, obtained from the same association to commit a crime with two cars with double bottoms useful for the drug / money transport.

The illegal activity carried out alone by the latter, carried out with great determination and delinquent capacity, began in 2018, when, starting from the month of April, it began to travel from Italy to Holland, always at the same workshop, where he recovered the drug to be delivered to the cells resident in Italy, withdrawing from them the sums of money destined for the Dutch base.

The man, particularly shrewd and eager to make journeys and deliveries of drugs / money in order to obtain ever greater earnings obtained as a percentage of the loads delivered, in order to avoid any checks even abroad, was pretending to be a representative of Italian products and, on the occasion of illegal travel, he applied advertising panels with the "Eat Enjoy" sign on the counters of the cars in use, loading a chef's uniform and traditional Italian food products into the vehicle interior.

In this context, from the investigations carried out, it emerged that in several circumstances, from April to July 2018, this additional courier introduced approximately 32 kg of cocaine to Italy and delivered to the various recipients, for a total amount of € 500.000 delivered at the top of the organization.

Gradually it was possible to identify the different recipients of the drug on the occasion of the various deliveries made to Foligno (PG), Perugia, Marina di Grosseto (GR), Toirano (SV), Genoa, in the Provinces of Vicenza and Treviso, as well as to Arma di Taggia (IM); precisely in this last center, on 16.07.2018, as a result of the investigations, about 5 kg of very high purity cocaine was seized destined for the local market. In this regard, it should be pointed out that the recipient of this considerable amount of cocaine is at the head of the only group / group of Italians to whom the narcotic deliveries have been made, compared to all the others formed by subjects of Albanian nationality.

Not only that, in one circumstance, just as a result of the disagreements that arose within the organization due to the seizure of this quantity of coca, the XNUMX-year-old from Friuli, in order to clarify the story with the Calabrian association operating in Arma di Taggia, is he was stopped on the highway on his way to Liguria for a clarifying meeting; in the context he was accompanied by two of his trusted accomplices, one of whom, found in possession of a gun, was arrested.

At the same time, it has also been documented that the courier of Campanian origin residing in Duino and his Albanian wife, also affected by the measure of house arrest, after the exclusion of the first from the criminal context, still dedicated themselves to the sale of cocaine in favor of consolidated customers residing in Trieste and Duino, who in turn fed autonomous drug networks. In particular, the woman, showing at times a certain resentment towards her husband now banished from the association and deprived of the economic proceeds obtained for the services rendered, began to personally manage the sale of cocaine that had remained in their availability, even in order to recover as much money as possible, in part destined to pay the Albanian organization the sum claimed for refreshment of the loss of the cocaine consignment of December 2017 (attributed by the heads of the organization to her husband). The woman, regardless of the possible criminal consequences, personally took care of multiple deliveries of cocaine to trusted customers, trying to avoid any police checks by bringing with her, in some cases, her daughter at an early age (at the time four years).

Finally, it was ascertained how the Latisana courier, whose wife was subjected to the precautionary measure of house arrest, in addition to supplying, as per the instructions of the top managers, the various cells of the Albanian organization in Italy, was authorized to peddle in turn to some of his contacts operating between Friuli and Veneto.
