The Genoa State Police has arrested 3 people of Roma ethnicity who live in the province of Turin for crimes of multiple theft in competition, all burdened with police records for crimes against property.

The restrictive measure was ordered by the GIP at the Court of Genoa following investigations conducted by the Flying Squad, coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor's Office.

The investigations were aimed at identifying the authors of a rip-deal: a theft committed using a particular deception technique.

The crime was committed in May this year, the victim was lured into a luxury hotel. The fake buyers have simulated that they are interested in buying 7 fine watches, worth about 400 thousand.

At the meeting, after viewing the watches, they agreed to pay the requested price in cash, but at the time of delivery they replaced the real banknotes with facsimile ones. In this way, they managed to appropriate the valuables, delivering a bag containing 400 thousand euros in facsimile banknotes. After having stolen the precious, they escaped in a car driven by a third accomplice.

The analysis of the images extrapolated from the video surveillance systems, the contribution of the victim and some witnesses, corroborated by technical investigative activities, made it possible to collect serious elements of responsibility for the disputed facts against the authors.

The policemen of the Genoa Flying Squad, supported by personnel from the Turin Flying Squad, traced the three suspects to their homes in Piossasco (TO) and Trana (TO). During the searches, clothes compatible with those used for the theft, money-counting machines, boxes of Rolex watches, numerous telephones deemed useful from an investigative point of view, and about 25 kg of facsimile banknotes were found, probably intended for the commission of new crime episodes of the same type.

The people arrested were taken to the Lorusso and Cutugno prison, at the disposal of the competent AG.
