Possible launch of a commercial airline between Tunisia and Qatar

As announced by the Nova agency, Tunisia and Qatar could launch a new commercial area line to encourage the export of North African products to the small Gulf State.

The project emerged following a meeting held yesterday in Tunis between the Tunisian Minister of Commerce, Omar Behi, and the Qatari ambassador to Tunisia, Ben Nasser Al Hamadi. Tunisia was also officially invited to participate in the international trade fair scheduled in Doha from 8 to 11 April. The minister, for his part, found an improvement in the volume of exports to Qatar "despite logistical problems".

On 5 June 2017, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt initiated a diplomatic and economic boycott against Qatar, closing land, air and sea borders, accusing the Gulf emirate of supporting terrorism, of relations with the Iran and to interfere in the internal affairs of the countries of the region. Qatar rejects the accusations, arguing that the blockade aims to incite regime change in Doha. Despite Kuwait's efforts to find a solution to the crisis, the situation is currently at a standstill. Tunisia, for its part, has maintained a neutral position on the dispute.
