Turkey, arrested 93 foreign fighter

Mega operation against ISIS cells in Turkey, after more than 150 arrests yesterday in the capital Ankara. The new blitzes led to the capture in Istanbul of 82 foreign fighters with a history of jihadist conflict. The raids were carried out by counter-terrorism in 14 addresses on the European and Asian shores of the metropolis on the Bosphorus. According to intelligence, the foreigners who ended up in handcuffs wanted to travel to Syria in the next few days. Another operation carried out in Adana, in southern Turkey, led to the arrest of 11 suspects affiliated with Isis of Syrian nationality. Further operations were conducted against suspected local ISIS militants, with 7 arrests in Smyrna, on the Aegean coast, and 9 in Trabzon, on the Black Sea. The state agency Anadolu reports. The mass arrests of suspected jihadists in recent days, together with some thwarted attacks, appear to be linked to a renewed mobilization of ISIS cells in Turkey, after military defeats in Syria and Iraq. According to local media, the blitzes carried out in the last 24 hours were also carried out to counter possible threats to today's celebrations of the 79th anniversary of the death of the 'father of the homeland', Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and to the Istanbul marathon, scheduled for Sunday.
