Turkey: arrests in counter-terrorist operation - 26 foreign fighters return to Istanbul

Counter-terrorism operation in Turkey: paper and digital documents and a small amount of explosives were seized in the morning raid.

26 foreign fighters believed to have returned to Turkey following the defeats suffered by the Islamic state in northern Syria.

In November, more than 109 were the people arrested in the city of Istanbul thanks to the collaboration of the Turkish secret services with the security forces. According to the Turkish police, 93 - of the 109 arrested in Istanbul in November - come from countries other than Turkey, while the foreign fighters, in the rounds of Ankara, are 82.

The 109 arrested add up to the 220 suspects who ended up in handcuffs in an investigation aimed at vanquishing jihadist cells from the Ankara police headquarters.

That of the Turkish security forces, to eliminate the threat deriving from foreign fighters who have returned to Turkey, is a non-stop work. According to the Soufan research institute, there are at least 800 Turks in addition to an unspecified number of jihadists from third countries.
