Turkey, exports to Russia increased by 52,5 percent in the first eight months of the year

According to Nova, exports from Turkey to Russia between January and August registered an increase of 52,5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1,6 billion dollars. The Assembly of Turkish Exporters (TIM) reports that the increase in exports marks a positive point after the 2015 crisis caused by the shooting down of a Russian jet on the border between Turkey and Syria. According to Tim, trade between the two countries amounted to 3,7 billion dollars in 2015, down to 1,8 billion in 2016, marking a decrease of 51,4 percent. 2017 saw an increase in 24 out of 27 sectors, including jewelry (+207,4 percent), fruit and vegetables (+150,4 percent), chemicals and automotive. Meanwhile, at a meeting between the delegations of the two countries last Friday it emerged that Moscow could cancel the restrictions on the import of tomatoes from Ankara, a Turkish "symbolic product". During the period January-July 2017, Turkish tomato exports to Russia reached $ 198,3 million, up from $ 159 million last year. Ali Galip Savasir, vice president of the Turkey-Russia Affairs Council, said that recent progress in relations with Moscow has had a positive effect on trade and that the business community is very happy with the situation.
