Turkey: Today extraordinary summit in Istanbul for the common position of the Muslim world over Jerusalem

Turkey, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the OIC, has convened, for today, an extraordinary summit in Istanbul, in which the heads of state and government and high political representatives of the 57 countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC ) will try to define a "common position" of the Muslim world in the face of Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

It will be the Turkish president, Erdogan, who called the summit a "turning point" to chair the proceedings. The Turkish leader, in recent days, has used very harsh tones both against Israel, calling it a "terrorist state and killer of children" and against Trump, accusing Washington of complicity in his "bloodshed".

The Palestinian Abu Mazen, the presidents of Iran and Lebanon, Hassan Rohani and Michel Aoun, and the king of Jordan Abdallah II will be present at today's summit. Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco are represented at the level of foreign ministers, while Saudi Arabia has sent the minister of Islamic affairs, Saleh bin Abdulaziz al Alshaikh.
