Turkey between Silvia Romano, drilling and Libya

The young cooperator, the drilling, Libya and Turkey common denominator. Now Rome will have to return the favor to Erdogan, and the real favor is the drilling and al-Serraj

(by Michele Marseille) In the past week, Turkey has once again returned to the balance on several fronts. Analyzing the fundamentals, it is visible how Ankara is slowly becoming an actor on the main international engagements, despite a slowdown in leadership, or rather, diplomatic ups and downs experienced in recent years.

Where Recep Tayyip Erdogan played - and we cannot fail to acknowledge praise - was precisely on the issue more in the news of this last week: the release of Silvia Romano, and the consequent discussion on an alleged and high ransom paid by the Italian State to jihadists or other Middle Eastern terrorist factions, kidnappers and custodians of the cooperator.

A large geopolitical game is being played around the liberation of the Italian and many are wondering if Erdogan today can count on the support of the Italian State and the Conte Government to take authority and supremacy over the most delicate international situations in which Turkey is interested. .

Despite rumors, denials, rumors and more, Turkey has not transferred ownership of the Silvia Romano operation.

A few days ago, through the spokesperson of President Erdogan - Omer Celik, the message was clear: «The work of our services in rescuing the young Italian is a great success. Turkish intelligence played a key role in the relief operation, and was involved in the case at the request of foreign governments. Relations between Turkey and Italy have always been based on solidarity ".

Certainly this is a clear, concise and determined statement that excludes any doubt about the involvement of the James Bonds of Ankara, moreover in Turkey it is a common dialectical practice to call the large enterprise of intelligence services 'Operation Roman'.

And this is where the game of cards opens up for a delicate geopolitics, Turkey interested in drilling. Although France, Greece, Cyprus, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates on Monday returned to denounce the illegality of Turkish oil operations in international waters in a joint note, Turkey made it known that despite international opposition, oil operations will continue of drilling, and in a short time they will also extend to the Black Sea.

The determination of this country cannot hide that it is strong, not only for a historical discourse that alternated Constantinople between defeats and victories, but it is clear that Erdogan's expansionist and economic aims do not stop with a simple meeting.

This road-map aims to continue a game of strength for the important oil resources of the eastern Mediterranean. Ankara's Minister of Energy, Fatih Donmez, speaking on the controversy over the operation of the Fatih drilling vessel under lockdown, confirms that the first activities will also be launched in the Black Sea from July, strengthening the policy that the Oil Company Turkish Petroleum presented an application to begin exploration activities in the eastern Mediterranean, in light of the memorandum of understanding signed on November 27 in Istanbul between Turkey and the Government of Libyan National Agreement (GNA) of Fayez al-Sarraj, for the delimitation of maritime borders, which however is considered illegitimate by the international community. Actual and true photography, then, that the so-called Roman Operation between Somalia, Turkey and Italy shows us that Ankara wants to give an interpretation of great strength also in dialogue with the different Islamic world, on the border with ISIS up to other groups who rule and reign in different areas of the Middle East.

It is therefore clear, I would sympathetically say, that 'slowly you are swimming in Libya'. Of course, the nerve center today of all the international economies that are thirsting for energy, and therefore for oil. Dear Libya.

Also with FederPetroli Italia, this week, before commenting on the hypotheses and deductions requested by the media on this possible 'Roman Operation', we waited to elaborate and compare ourselves to give a correct interpretation to Turkish expansionist visions.

But it is therefore clear that Turkey will be able to play this joker in Italy sooner than you think.

With the favor given to Italy, there could be even more an Italian green light to the Turkish military defense of Tripoli's prime minister Fayez al-Serraj, against what everyone judges the 'Libyan evil Lord', Khalifa Haftar.

And therefore Rome's no to Turkish drilling could quickly transliterate into a side by side view, trusting, even if it turns out to be utopian and illusory since Italy today has no more power on the Middle Eastern chessboard, in a voice of strength and more Roman to support their theses.

Italy and Turkey have always had a relationship of love and hate, I do not speak of decades ago, but also some time ago our representative of international politics and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luigi di Maio, had raised words against Turkish policies in that Libya so much contention.

But then Turkey with a young cooperative has reversed its position in the world?

Surely our Intelligence Services today will not be able to turn their backs on Turkish friends because "everyone is needed", especially in the most 'refined' intelligence departments, but certainly a strong sponsorship could come from Italy to Turkey's candidacy for the entry into the European Union, and, as you know, from the tip of our boot, to Tripoli is a short and quick step.
