Monday 4 March 2019, at the 11, at the Penitentiary Center P. Mandato di Secondigliano will inaugurate the Academic Year 2018 / 2019 of the Polo Penitentiary Campus of Campania.
The ceremony will be attended by Giulia Russo, Secondigliano Penitentiary Director, Gaetano Manfredi, Rector of the University of Naples Federico II, HE Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Giuseppe Martone, Penitentiary Administration Superintendent, Adriana Pangia, President of the Supervisory Court, Lucia Fortini, Regional Councilor for Education, Marella Santangelo, Delegate of the Rector of Federico II to the PUP - University Penitentiary of Campania, and Samuele Ciambriello, Guarantor of the inmates of Campania.
The activities of the Penitentiary University Campus of Campania are the result of an important work of institutional collaboration between the University of Naples Federico II and the Provveditorato of the Penitentiary Administration of Campania, sanctioned by a Convention renewed in recent days, in Italy already exist many Poles, in various regions, but this is the first pole of the South of Italy.
It is a very important initiative for the affirmation and concretization of the right to study of persons in a regime of restriction of personal freedom in the wake of a conception of the rehabilitative sentence, as stated in the art. 27 of our Constitution that brings together the personalistic instance that is the principle of humanity, with the solidaristic instance that is the re-educational principle.
The Polo is located in the Penitentiary Center of Secondigliano, where two sections were assigned to the detained students, the Ionian section for high security prisoners and the Mediterranean for those of medium security. Within the sections the students have a different regime, they have the cells open all day, spaces for the study, for the lessons, for the meeting with professors and tutors.
