Air Force aircraft transports newborn from Cagliari to Milan

The child, whose life was in danger, was transported with a Falcon 50 of the 31st Wing of Ciampino

The emergency medical transport of a 7-day-old newborn baby transported from Cagliari to Milan with a Falcon 50 aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force, based in Ciampino, has concluded.

The child, whose life was in danger, needed to be transported with extreme urgency and maximum promptness from the Monserrato “Duilio Casula” University Polyclinic, where he was previously hospitalized, to the San Donato Milanese Polyclinic, to receive specific treatment.

The flight, which boarded the child at Cagliari Elmas airport accompanied by family members and a medical team, then left for Milan Linate airport, to quickly reach the destination hospital.

Emergency medical transport is one of the institutional activities that the Air Force carries out at the service of the community. The flight, defined as "IPV - Imminent Danger of Life", was activated at the request of the Prefecture of Cagliari at the Summit Situation Room of the Air Force Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its functions also that of arranging and manage this type of missions. The 31st Wing, one of the departments that carries out the operational readiness service for emergency medical transport, was therefore immediately affected.

The Air Force's flight departments are available to the population 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of ensuring the transport of patients, organs, medical teams and ambulances, even in complex weather conditions.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of intervention, by the planes of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
