Venezuela: Maduro ready to cash in on a new victory in the Administrations

The economic crisis and the convictions reached by many parts of the world do not stop the advance of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela and the Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro is once again preparing to win the administrative elections before the presidential elections scheduled for the 2018.

The opposition has in fact decided to boycott the vote, denouncing "the absence of guarantees" on the fairness and transparency of the electoral process as it did last October in the regional elections which ended with a landslide victory for the ruling party that won 18 posts as governor out of 23.

Voters are called to the polls to elect 355 mayors across the country: of these, today 242 are members of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, 76 of the opposition, the others are independent. According to Eugenio Martinez, electoral expert, "the absence of the main political parties (of the opposition, ed) and (the strength) of the Chavista apparatus make it impossible for the opposition to maintain even half of the municipalities they control, therefore Maduro's party it will increase its power in the country, with a clear objective in mind: the presidential elections of 2018 ”.
