Versalis and Montello: agreement for a new range of recycled packaging plastic products

Versalis (Eni), an international player in the sectors of plastics, rubbers and chemicals from renewable sources, and Montello SpA, primary operator in Europe in post-consumer plastic recovery and recycling technologies, have signed an agreement aimed at developing a new range of polyethylene products from recycled packaging.

Thanks to the consolidated technological and commercial skills in polyethylene, the two companies have developed different products that can contain up to 70% post-consumer plastic, designed to meet the needs of the packaging and agricultural sector, two of the main applications of this material.

The new grades are developed with the joint support of the Montello laboratories and the Versalis Research Center in Mantua through an innovative process, and industrial tests have already been carried out at client companies that have given positive evaluations.

The agreement also provides for the development of new processes with the aim of obtaining highly sustainable products with characteristics that can satisfy the best performance required by the market.

«In Versalis we are committed to developing concrete solutions in the circular economy and to do this we believe it is fundamental to combine forces and expertise in the supply chain. Truly closing the circle also means turning recycled plastic into new raw material for valuable applications, and we are making it together with a partner of excellence in the world of recycling like Montello, "said Daniele Ferrari, CEO of Versalis.

«That a major producer of virgin polymers like Versalis enters, through an agreement with Montello, in the plastic recycling sector is a sign of great attention and sensitivity towards the environment and to the imperative necessity that the end-of-life plastic is recycled and reintroduced into the production and consumption cycle "said Roberto Sancinelli, President of Montello SpA.
