Wagner sends us migrants from Libya? Alarm from our services: 685 ready to land on Italian coasts

(by Francesco Matera) Almost a thousand people rescued and landed in Lampedusa, another 300 in the Ionian Sea. A wave that makes the number of arrivals in our country soar again, exceeding the levels of 2022 and 2021 in the same period.

A new trend that greatly worries the Italian government which has tried to remedy it with a series of bilateral meetings abroad in Tunisia and Libya.

In Tripoli at the end of January there was talk of putting in place a powerful action to control the territory, a concept reaffirmed in Rome three weeks ago between the Minister Piantedosi and the Libyan Interior Minister, Imad Mustafa Trabelsi. A perspective which however is not entirely satisfactory given that in Libya the situation is not at all simple where militias still raid important slices of the territory.

Not to mention that the Libyans who have sworn allegiance to the general would manage the endless migrant camps kalifa Haftar which, as known, is supported and helped by Russian private company Wagner. Hence the doubt that it may be Putin himself who reopens the taps of migratory flows, applying one of the principles of hybrid warfare, so dear to his head of the armed forces, General Gerasimov. A response from Moscow to Prime Minister Meloni's recent visit to Kiev and unconditional Italian support for the Ukrainian cause.

Flooding Italy and Europe with irregular migrants generates confusion, disorder and chaos, especially in those governments where the opposition, far from preserving the national interest, takes advantage of these situations to attack the majority, out of mere political interest and increase , thus, their consents.

The Meloni government is therefore trying to remedy what is expected to be a new emergency, with the implementation of humanitarian corridors for people in particularly vulnerable conditions. Argument shared by the President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen who announced the allocation of half a billion euros for the resettlement of 50 migrants in Europe precisely through the humanitarian corridors emphasized by Meloni.

The anomalous wave of migrants is reflected in the dossiers of our intelligence apparatuses which in the weekly reports on immigration underline how in Libya, in detention camps but not only, there are 685 irregular migrants ready to leave to land on the Italian coast .

In 2022 there were 104 arrivals, while in the first three months of 2023 there were already 17.592.

Corsera provides the situation of reception centers in Italy. 33.244 are welcomed in the Sal centres, managed by local authorities and the third sector. 74.937 are welcomed in the reception centers managed by the Interior Ministry. The region hosting the most migrants is Lombardy with 12.399 people, followed by Emilia-Romagna (10.600), Piedmont (9.687) and Lazio (9.540).
