The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, unanimously re-elected last Saturday at the summit of the People's Republic of China by the National People's Assembly, after the electoral triumph, sent a congratulatory message to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

According to the Xinhua news agency, in the message, Xi expressed confidence that Russia will be able to "create new glories in national development" by adding that the overall strategic partnership between China and Russia, "is at the best level in History" and is an "example to build a new kind of international relations".

Putin was the first head of state to send a message to Xi Jinping last Saturday shortly after China's newly elected president was sworn in on the Constitution - which includes his name and ideological contribution - kicking off the his second five years as Chinese president, a position that today is no longer subject to the limitation of the double mandate, after the latest amendments to the Chinese Constitution approved on 11 March. Last Saturday, in his message to Xi, Putin said he would be "very happy" to have new meetings with him in the future.
