Air Force: two urgent medical transports in a few hours

Two life-saving flights were carried out yesterday by Air Force aircraft for the benefit of a child and a sixty-year-old

The first urgent flight, requested by the Prefecture of Bari and concluded just before 18pm yesterday, Friday 00 September, was carried out with an HH15 helicopter belonging to the 139th Wing of Cervia. The aircraft, in emergency response at the 15th SAR (Search and Rescue) Center in Gioia del Colle, took off to quickly transport the child, only 84 months old, from Barletta, where he was previously hospitalised, to 'S. Vincenzo Hospital of Taormina.

The second urgent flight, requested by the Prefecture of Perugia, was instead carried out late yesterday evening, for the benefit of a 66-year-old man in imminent danger of his life. The man needed to be transferred from the Perugia Hospital to the Bari Polyclinic, therefore an Air Force Falcon 50 aircraft was activated from the Air Force Summit Situation Room which immediately involved the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the Departments that carries out the operational readiness service for this type of missions.

Emergency medical transports, for the benefit of the community, are among the institutional tasks carried out by the Air Force.

The Air Force Flight Departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews able to operate, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger to life, but also to organs, medical teams or ambulances.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
