Air Force, Air Rescue: lifesaving flight for 20-day baby girl concluded

The little patient was transported from Cagliari to Rome aboard a Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo di Ciampino

The air rescue carried out with the Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo di Ciampino for the urgent transport from Cagliari to Rome of a newborn of only twenty days ended today

The little girl, hospitalized at the University Hospital of Cagliari, needed to receive urgent and life-saving specialist care, which is why the immediate intervention of the Air Force aircraft was essential.

The flight, requested by the Prefecture of Cagliari, was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of activating and managing urgent medical transport, giving the order to take off to the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various bases, for this kind of need.

The Falcon 900, which took off from Ciampino military airport, landed in Cagliari where the little patient was immediately boarded in a special thermal cradle, assisted by a medical team and accompanied by her parents. The aircraft then left for Ciampino, where it landed around 12.30. From the Roman airport, the newborn was transferred by ambulance to the Bambino Gesù Hospital. The crew of the 31 ° Stormo subsequently resumed operational readiness service.

Missions of this type cannot be separated from maximum timeliness, guaranteed by meticulous organization and well-established procedures. The Air Force Flight Departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent life threatening, often children, but also of organs for transplants, medical teams or, as in the case of the C130J aircraft of the 46th Pisa Air Brigade, even ambulances.
