The emergency medical transport was carried out on board an Air Force Falcon 50 initially taken off from the 31st Wing of Ciampino

The life-saving flight, carried out with the Falcon 50 jet of the Italian Air Force, which transported a 2-year-old child in serious danger of life from Catania airport to Genoa one has just ended.

The little patient, previously hospitalized at the “G. Martino ”in Messina, was transported with extreme urgency on board the military plane that took off from Ciampino airport - headquarters of the 31st Wing - for Catania around 6:30 this morning. After having boarded the child and the medical team, the aircraft took off again and then reached the Genoa airport. Here an ambulance allowed the patient to reach the “Gaslini” pediatric hospital in Genoa to receive the necessary specialist care.

The medical air transport, requested by the Prefecture of Messina, was immediately coordinated by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has, among its tasks, also that of arranging and managing this type of missions through the activation of one of the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various military bases, for this kind of need.

The Air Force Flight Departments are available to the community every single day of the year, with vehicles and crews able to operate with the utmost timeliness, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger to life, but also to organs, medical teams or, as in the case of the C130J aircraft of the 46th Pisa Air Brigade, ambulances.
