Defense-ASI collaboration for joint programs in the space sector is underway

Yesterday, in the presence of the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral Cable Dragon, delegated for the occasion by the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, and the President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), ing. Giorgio Saccoccia, the signing of the Framework Agreement between the Ministry of Defense and ASI, concerning the collaboration in the field of space activities, through the implementation of programs and studies of common interest.

Defense and ASI represent the most relevant institutional actors for the development of the national space sector.

The Framework Agreement takes into account the changed regulatory scenario of reference and introduces new issues of cooperation on research and technological innovation and on projects and studies of national interest that can be developed by the two Administrations. In particular, the collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and ASI provides for the creation of specialized training courses, professional refresher courses as well as the implementation of dual programs.

The Framework Agreement therefore confirms the essential synergy of the space sector, within which institutional projects can be jointly developed for the benefit of the community. The constant evolution of risks and threats in the space sector requires a strong partnerships between civil and military actors in seeking technological and operational solutions to prevent accidents and service interruptions.

Cooperation with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) has for years been one of the main references for the implementation of the Defense space policy, thus allowing to strengthen this two-way relationship in emerging technological and capacitive sectors, such as that of Space Situational Awareness, and in various fields of scientific research.

Among the departments of the Defense Staff, theGeneral Office Space - UGS - will be directly interested in the various stages of development and realization of the objectives set out in the important strategic agreement for our country.

THEGeneral Office Space is the staff element that assists the Chief of Defense Staff in dealing with issues relating to the space sector. In particular, UGS: provides assistance in all initiatives relating to the space sector of interest to Defense; defines the and guidelines in the space field; develops programs / projects in the space sector; constitutes theentry point Defense for the space sector; monitors technological developments, identifying areas of interest and priorities; provides support to the political Authority in the relevant sector; works in technical-functional connection with the defense personnel employed by international organizations and bodies, in the space sector.
