Hacker attack, more than half of US companies have suffered: incalculable damage

A survey last year showed that more than half of US companies said they had suffered a hacker attack.

The investigation carried out by Zogby Associates, on behalf of the insurance company HSB, which offers cyber insurance, showed that following the attacks these companies had to spend large sums of money to repair the damage.

Of the companies that have experienced an attack in the previous 12 months, 72% have spent more than $ 5.000 to investigate each cyberattack, restore or replace software and hardware, and deal with other consequences, the survey found. About 55 percent spent between $ 50.000 and more than $ 250.000. Data loss was reported by 60 percent, while 55 percent experienced a business interruption. Malware and viruses accounted for more than half of hacker attacks, followed by denial of service, ransomware, cyber extortion and social engineering attacks.

“In addition to the growing number of cyberattacks and their associated costs, businesses have become increasingly sensitive to protecting their data,” said HSB Vice President Timothy Zeilman. "Data drives business and the loss or corruption of information can be devastating for a company."

The HSB survey also revealed that 56 percent of respondents had purchased cyber insurance for the first time this year.

That said, in summary, proves that companies in the reality of the cyber threat should be equipped to contain the damage and bring the risk close to zero.

Therefore, provide in your budgets funds to be devoted to prevention and monitoring and funds for good computer insurance, as you will almost certainly be attacked.

The most devastating aspect is that many companies realize that they have been hacked for a long time, that is, they do not even notice it at all. The damages to this type of management, "cheerful" are incalculable. The culture of security, training and the allocation of dedicated funds are the only effective weapon to try to counteract the phenomenon which is then the new modern challenge.
