Blinken in the Middle East for "humanitarian pauses" and "post conflict"

Editorial

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken in Tel Aviv, in Jordan to meet his counterparts from the Arab countries and then in Turkey to speak with Erdogan.

Not only in Tel Aviv, the US Secretary of State, Antony blinken he was also in Amman where he met his colleagues from Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon ed United Arab Emirates. There was discussion about the aftermath of Hamas, i.e. when the terrorist group will be completely eradicated from the Gaza Strip.

According to some leaked rumors, the American project envisages a period in which there should be an Arab multinational force under UN auspices to maintain peace and promote reconstruction. Following this, a political force already known to the people should take office, thePalestinian National Authority who today is stationed and governs in the West Bank.

A prospect that does not excite the Arabs too much who, in response, ask for American intervention for a cease-fire immediate.

"This is no longer self-defense – says the Egyptian Shoukry- and the wretched killings in Gaza cannot be justified. Collective punishment, Israel targeting innocent civilians and facilities, hospitals, doctors, as well as trying to force Palestinians to leave their lands, this cannot in any way constitute self-defense.". The Jordanian, Safadi, is on the same line: “Israel is committing war crimes, the entire region is sinking in a sea of hatred that will mark generations to come."

The Egyptian Shoukry on the “post-conflict” he has declared: "What will happen next? How can we even begin to talk about it, we don't have all the variables to do it, now the priorities are different."

From Beirut one of the leaders of Hamas, Osama Hamdan, criticized the American high representative:“Blinken should stop the aggression and not come up with ideas that can't be put into practice.".

Blinken told reporters on the sidelines of the Amman summit that there were few signs of a ceasefire chance, opening up, however, to the proposal already made to the Israelis of short "humanitarian pauses" to allow injured people and humanitarian aid for civilians to pass through the Rafah crossing.

For now, Netanyahu has not shown any openness to the American suggestion even though yesterday Biden, pressed by journalists, said that work was still being done on the humanitarian pauses.

On the ceasefire Blinken said: “It is our opinion that a ceasefire now would simply keep Hamas in place in Gaza, allowing them to regroup, regroup and repeat what they did on October 7.”

Blinken said America strongly supports Israel's strategy to completely eradicate Hamas and then pursue the long-standing project of “two states and two peoples".
