Brexit: "separating is difficult but separating and building a new relationship is even more difficult"

If London wants to remain in the single market and in the Customs Union for another two years from the start of Brexit, in March 2019, it will have to respect a series of conditions: compliance with all European legislation including new measures, compliance with the financial commitments that implies the transitional stay, European legal supervision and all related obligations, while Europe will continue its decision-making and legislative process without the United Kingdom to which it will have to adapt throughout the transitional period, is what the President of the Tusk European Council.

What will happen when Britain leaves the single market and the customs union?

"We must begin to discuss it as soon as possible," stressed Tusk.

The new relations, according to the President of the European Council Tusk, should not be limited only to commercial ones but also to security, defense, foreign policy, the fight against terrorism and crime, on which "the Council will have to adopt new guidelines at the beginning of the 'next year' to conduct the second phase of the negotiations.
