White House: only 200 military for peacekeeping will remain in Syria

Sara Sanders, spokeswoman for the White House, announced that, after the withdrawal is completed in the spring, the United States will leave about 200 soldiers in Syria "as a small group for peacekeeping operations", without specifying where these troops will be stationed, what they will be actually their task and how long they will remain, limiting themselves to speaking of "a period of time".

Subsequently, military sources specified that the contingent will be "split in half" between the areas controlled by the Kurds in the north-east of the country and the Al-Tang base in south-east Syria and that the total number of troops could undergo a slight increase.

The news was announced after a telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.

The withdrawal, which is expected to be completed by the end of April and justified by the fact that the mission of the 2mila US military - to destroy the Islamic State's caliphate - would be achieved.
