Caserta, custody for 30 individuals under investigation for mafia-type criminal association

The Caserta State Police has executed an order of custody in prison issued by the Office of the Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the Court of Naples, at the request of the local District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against 30 people, all under investigation for the crime of criminal association of mafia type.

The investigations were carried out by policemen of the Flying Squad, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples, against the criminal association of the Camorra-style called Small-Letizia clan and the similar association called the Perreca clan, federated with it, both operating in the territories of Caserta, Marcianise, Recale and contiguous areas, from the 90 years to today, in open and armed opposition to the Belforte clan.

Each of the suspects is accused of the crime of criminal association of the Camorra type, as promoters, organizers and participants of the aforementioned mafia partnerships which, making use of the associative bond and the condition of subjugation and of the ensuing silence, carry out, unlawfully, the control of economic activities, the release of public contracts and services, the granting of concessions and administrative authorizations, the illicit conditioning of the right to vote, the speculative reinvestment in entrepreneurial, real estate and financial activities, the affirmation of hegemonic control over the territory, also through armed opposition with rival criminal organizations.

The survey highlighted the opposition of rival clans in the area and the long trail of blood that followed in the twenty years from the 1990 to the 2009 and the subsequent change in the strategy of the clans with the transition from the 'armed' phase to the silent and virulent phase of the infiltration in the business sector.

The investigative activities, centered on the interceptions of the interviews in prison and on the statements of the collaborators of justice, offered a significant cross-section of the internal tensions of the Piccolo clan, especially between the "Piccolo" component and the "Letizia" component, in the years following the 2005, when the numerous operations of the PG and the proliferation of collaborators of justice in the ranks of the Belforte clan marked the progressive weakening of this association and the progressive resumption of the activities of the Quaqquaroni clan, within which frictions began between the two factions, for contend for the role of leader.

And again, the investigations of the Neapolitan DDA and the Caserta squad have unveiled the importance for the clan of criminal infiltration in carrying out legitimate business activities and the control of the latter.
