In the early hours of today, Catania State Police, delegated by the local District Prosecutor of the Republic, implemented the precautionary measure of custody in prison, issued on 3 August 2022, by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the Court, against 5 people as seriously suspected, with different profiles of responsibility, the state of the acts and in relation to the trial phase that has not yet allowed the intervention of the defenses, the crimes of brawl and personal injury, aggravated by the use of weapons, possession and carrying in public places of several common firearms as well as mistreatment in the family and damage to things exposed to the public faith.
The restrictive measure of the utmost rigor was issued following the outcome of investigations - both traditional and technical - coordinated by this Public Prosecutor's Office and carried out by the Mobile Squad - Section Crimes against the person, sexual and to the detriment of minors, on the occasion of serious facts occurred in the capital on the night of April 21, 2022, when, near a night club, located in the city center, a violent brawl involving numerous people was recorded, which then degenerated into a shooting that took place on the public road, between busy two-way lanes of an important city artery. Already from the very first documents of investigation, the investigators were able to establish that, on the occasion, there had been at least two injured, shot by gunfire: an adult and a minor. Through the findings and records of the Scientific Police it was also possible to verify, on the basis of the discovery of the shells found in the vicinity of the place of the criminal action, how at least 2 pistols had been used by some of the runners: one of caliber 7,65, 40 and the other XNUMX caliber.
The examination of the images collected by the video surveillance systems present in the area affected by the violent confrontation between two opposing factions, also allowed to clarify that some of the gunshots would have been exploded by the P. and would have drawn the S. continuation of the investigative investigations - supported by technical activities as well as by the careful examination and comparison of the witness statements collected - led to the general reconstruction of the facts under investigation that originated from a previous friction that took place on the night between 16 and 17 April 2022, inside the nightclub mentioned above, when some young people, believed to be close to the "Mazzei" clan, would have prevented a well-known neo-melodic singer from Catania from performing together with a trapper who, to make the show more interesting , had requested his presence on stage. In the excitement, the aforementioned neo-melodic singer would also have pushed the girlfriend of one of the boys contiguous to the "Carcagnusi".
This friction would then have had, on the night of April 21, the serious epilogue already highlighted, which ended with gunshots exploded on the public road and with the wounding of two individuals. On this last occasion, a group of young people, gathered around the figure of MS and belonging to an adverse fringe (to be considered contiguous to the "Cappello-Bonaccorsi" clan), carried out a sort of counter-offensive against the faction that had prevented, the previous week, the singing performance referred to. The result was therefore a real raid with the use of multiple weapons. The investigations brought to light evidence, univocal and converging, about the direct participation in the criminal events, also against Naples and Gagliano, whose conduct, according to the assessments of the GIP, was characterized by such gravity as to make it necessary adoption of the precautionary measure of maximum distress.
The investigations also made it possible to outline another story that occurred in the family and concerning only Miano, which would in any case be indicative of his violent nature, the ease and familiarity with the use of firearms, attributable to the crime of mistreatment in the family to the detriment in person close to him as well as to that of detention, carrying common firearms and damage to a car exposed to public faith, given that the suspect would not hesitate to explode, for futile reasons, a shot from a firearm, caliber 38 , on the bonnet of the car of a relative. For the operations to trace and capture the recipients of the measure, the Flying Squad of the Catania Police Headquarters was assisted by crews from the Crime Prevention Department of Eastern Sicily and units from other branches of the Catania Police Headquarters.
