Catanzaro. Operation “High Impact”

The State Police, the Carabinieri and the Financial Police, assisted by personnel from the Local Police and the Fire Brigade, carried out a "High Impact" service in the "Aranceto" district of Catanzaro, carrying out dozens of checks, checkpoints and searches.

Other entities such as Enel and Italgas as well as personnel from the Municipality of Catanzaro belonging to the social services, aqueduct service and the municipal solid waste collection sector participated in the operational activities due to their specific skills.

During the operations, several violations of the law were detected, resulting in the seizure of marijuana, cash, burglary tools, electronic control units used to steal cars and also unauthorized video surveillance systems positioned to guard the homes of convicted felons. Furthermore, some stolen vehicles were found and will be returned to their rightful owners.

During the operation, administrative checks were carried out aimed at verifying compliance with the rules of the Highway Code and the environmentally healthy and hygienic-sanitary conditions of the properties in the area.

In particular, a monitoring activity was started on the apartments of the popular housing complex, in order to ascertain the regular occupation of the buildings and the presence of illegally connected utilities, ensuring the closure of the irregular ones and the restoration of the seals on the tampered meters.

The inspections were also extended to the condominium parts, including elevators, terraces and warehouses as well as to some homes in a state of abandonment. In the external common areas, transformed into an open-air landfill, a considerable quantity of waste of all types was found, including numerous vehicle carcasses. The area was cleaned up and the waste was taken out for regular disposal.

During the activities, 282 people were identified, 180 vehicles were checked, of which 7 were seized, 16 violations of the Highway Code were contested and 2 administrative fines were issued against as many public establishments which carried out food and drink administration activities without any authorization.

This morning's operation testifies, once again, to the presence of the State in territories characterized by strong degradation and falls within the framework of regular and structured interventions aimed at reaffirming conditions of legality and security.

In the "High Impact" service arranged following the decisions taken at the CPOSP held on 3 November in the Prefecture, approximately 150 operators from the various law enforcement agencies were employed, including the specialized and reinforcement departments sent by the Minister of Interior Matteo PIANTEDOSI to strengthen territorial control and crime-fighting services in the Catanzaro area.

A State Police helicopter also took part in the operation.
