According to reports from Chinese media, at least 21 workers are dead in the collapse of a coal mine in northern China

The incident took place yesterday in Shenmu, in Shaanxi province, the heart of the country's coal mining belt, according to state TV and the Xinhua news agency.

The numbers were also provided by the city government which added that other 66 miners were rescued from rescues arrived on the spot.

The mineral extraction industry is the most deadly in the world despite the number of victims, affected by explosions and other disasters in Chinese coal mines, has fallen dramatically over the past decade.
