The Carabinieri of the Compagnia di Colleferro in close collaboration with those of the Compagnia di Pontecorvo arrested, in the act of committing a crime, a 26-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both of Campania origin, seriously suspected of the crime of aggravated fraud against an elderly woman, with the note fake nephew technique.
Yesterday morning, shortly after noon, ai Carabinieri of the Montelanico Station a phone call was received from a local woman reporting a scam that had occurred a few moments earlier against her 86-year-old mother. The soldiers immediately reached the victim's home who, in tears, said it had happened shortly before: after receiving a phone call from an interlocutor, posing as his nephew, who announced that the mother, the victim's daughter, had been detained from the Director of the Post Office since he had contracted a debt with the Post Office, he asked her for 6000 euros to avert arrest and that a postal employee would collect them at home.
Shortly thereafter, a 31-year-old woman, accompanied by an accomplice, reached the victim's home and asked for the sum of money, approximately 5.000 euros, to be handed over, reporting that that sum was not enough to resolve her daughter's legal problems . Therefore the two pushed the old woman to hand over all the gold objects too, bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, which she was particularly fond of and only then did they leave aboard a small car.
The Carabinieri also listened to the neighbors, who had not gone unnoticed by the couple, so with the data collected they sent searches to all the patrols in the area as well as to the neighboring Carabinieri Companies through the Carabinieri operations center of the Colleferro Company, in particular to those competent on the route towards Naples, on the basis of some investigative elements collected immediately such as the color of the car and some numbers and letters of the license plate.
The providential intervention of the Carabinieri of the Aquino Station made it possible to intercept the car on the A/1 motorway section, in the Pontecorvo-Cassino section towards Naples, and block the couple. The subsequent personal and vehicular search made it possible to find the stolen goods which were subsequently returned to the elderly victim.
The arrested were held in the security rooms and subsequently transferred to the district houses of Velletri and Teramo, as provided by the Deputy Public Prosecutor of Velletri on duty, dr. Ambrose Cassiani, who intervened on the spot to coordinate all operations and interrogate both suspects.
This timely intervention by the Carabinieri of Colleferro which allowed the woman to return to possession of the stolen goods and bring the criminals to justice is part of a broader area prevention device prepared by the Provincial Command of Rome which, to counter this heinous crime widespread on the entire national territory, has set up an info-operational osmosis table aimed at analyzing this type of crime committed to the detriment of victims falling within the so-called "weak bands" for which the attention and sensitivity of the Public Prosecutor of Velletri is very high.
