Thus in a note the president of Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic - Copasir -, Raffaele Volpi highlighted the main topics on which the High Committee will continue to focus attention in the wake already traced in the course of 2020: "Looking to the new year, the Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic is preparing to plan its , to confirm the same profile that in the difficult 2020 led him to make his contribution, I think useful, to the interest of the country.
It did so by following, with dutiful and institutional diligence, issues relevant to what it felt affected broad and often strategic aspects of national security and possible threats to the Italian system. Copasir with the privilege, by its constitutive form, of representing Parliament on an equal basis as a control body over the security services has had and will have the third but not aseptic burden of translating facts, news and sensitivities, contingent or scenario, to be made available to the country and its institutional and decision-making actors. As in last year, always in a unanimous and shared way, the focus on important issues such as those concerning the 5G and the situation of the banking and insurance sector, seen from the original observatory of the Committee, made it possible to submit to the debate issues of central importance for the next coming. Copasir is planning in-depth studies on strategic sectors such as infrastructure,the energy, and the 'defense industry. I cannot also ignore the heartfelt responsibility for a contribution to be given, within the perimeter of competence, to all the actors involved in the challenges that await the country with a dutiful and constructive support within a scenario that, albeit and also of great opportunities, is not free of inside and does not allow opacity or internal and external threats. It will be a moment for Copasir to confirm its proven willingness to directly assume unanimous and shared responsibility in that general interest that must be an essential beacon in such a particular moment. The challenges, due to the speed of time and the unavoidable quality of the objectives, are high and in this context, which will reopen inevitable competitions on strategic supply chains also in Europe, even the constant work of the intelligence sector becomes a guarantee platform for the whole Italian system. The high quality of the sector, the high professionalism of its internal human resources and its impartiality, to be firmly preserved, give us the guarantee of a complex and effective tool, in step with the times and often envied also by other state actors, who in its institutionality it will be able to be a continuous compendium in the strategies, which must be outlined as soon as possible, for the revival of the country. The Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic will continue, in the spirit of constructive action, to make its contribution to the reborn Italy ”.
