The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Paola De Micheli remained in constant contact with the local authorities on the story of the collapse of the Lenzino Bridge over the Trebbia river, in the province of Piacenza.

"I heard both the prefect Daniela Lupo - he says - and the president of the Province Patrizia Barbieri and the mayor of Cerignale Massimo Castelli, who confirmed to me that there are no people involved in the collapse of the bridge and they informed me that an alternative road network has been prepared. to ensure accessibility to the inhabited centers of the valley. I also discussed with the Head of Civil Protection Angelo Borrelli and with the CEO of Anas Massimo Simonini, who assured me of the start of an immediate investigation to ascertain the causes of the collapse ". "In the next few days I will be in Ponte Lenzino - he concludes - to personally assess the situation and define together with the local authorities how to reconstruct the viaduct".

The collapse occurred yesterday afternoon, October 3. The failure occurred in the section of the viaduct over the Trebbia river along the SS 45 which is now interrupted. The bridge crosses the Trebbia between the municipalities of Corte Brugnatella and Cerignale. According to some witnesses, the collapse occurred in a few seconds immediately after the passage of a couple on board a vehicle.

The Trebbia river had swelled in the morning due to the night rains, but it had not reached a level such as to suggest such a destructive effect. Anas has launched a technical investigation to investigate the causes of the failure. The technicians arrived on site to investigate the case. In the evening the viaduct was placed under seizure by the judiciary.
