The "Cybersecurity in the era of AI” is the title of the 3rd edition of CyberSec, the international conference promoted and organized by the newspaper Cybersecurity Italy. The conference which will take place in Rome on 6 and 7 March 2024, through the contribution of national and international cyber security experts, intends to provide important insights into the technological and regulatory evolutions of cybersecurity and a broad focus on the new frontiers of artificial intelligence for cybersecurity.

The Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto spoke to the important gathering, through a communication read during the conference proceedings: “In recent years, the growing presence and complexity of cyber threats has meant that cyberspace is considered a new operational domain in the defense sector, on a par with the terrestrial, maritime, air and space domains.. Faced with the pitfalls, the most advanced countries have increased their efforts to strengthen their cybersecurity structures and their resilience capabilities. The Italian Defense, for its part, is enhancing digitalization and updating its operational models to guarantee security at the highest level. This includes the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced cloud services, spatial information structures, up to new encryption standards to protect information. Investing in the training of professionals with specific skills in the cyber sector is essential today“, specifies the Minister of Defense.

Crosetto adds in the message that “there are many initiatives to attract the best skills to support the defense ecosystem: among these, the creation of a 'cyber reserve' which can also involve professionals from the private world, to be activated in the event of a crisis, to support the defence's expressible capabilities. Artificial intelligence therefore represents a priority for the Italian government, especially to counteract potential improper use by organizations with hostile purposes, including those of
terrorist and criminal matrix
. One of the most complex objectives - he concludes - is to find a balance between security and defense of rights by focusing on multilateral governance and ethical regulations. Starting from the collaboration with the European Union for the approval of theArtificial intelligence act: useful tool for establishing AI management principles that ensure full human control, without compromising development opportunities".
