Relatives of the officials of the Havana embassy complained of headaches, difficulty concentrating and dizziness, according to a statement from the Canadian government's department for diplomatic and consular affairs. In some cases, these symptoms appeared to "diminish in intensity before returning".
For this reason, although no new cases were recorded in the second half of last year, Canada has decided to recall the relatives of its accredited diplomats in Havana, while they continue to investigate the unusual symptoms complained of last year.
Even the Washington department, due to a similar situation denounced by many diplomats, has announced the reduction to the minimum of personnel on the island.
The most accredited hypothesis is that they have been victims of acoustic attacks conducted with ultrasound equipment, for which Cuba has always denied any responsibility in all these months. For its part, the Canadian department - in announcing that from now on the diplomats who will be sent to Havana will no longer take the family with them - underlined that it had "a positive and constructive relationship with Cuba and that it had the Cuban authorities have cooperated closely since the first health problems emerged in the spring of last year ”.
