Defense and FS group: the continuation of the journey of the "Train of Memory" presented in Rome

The historic train train will depart from Trieste on 6 October to reach Rome on 4 November after having traveled over 5 kilometers through all the regional capitals and major Italian cities not involved in the 1921 route and traveled over last year on the occasion of the centenary

This morning in Rome, at the Officers Club of the Armed Forces (CUFA), the press conference to present the itinerary of the "Memory Train" as a continuation of the journey of the special convoy that in 1921 transported the body of the "Unknown Soldier ”, Chosen by Maria Bergamas among those of 11 unidentified Italian Fallen, from Aquilea to Rome.

The Defense Staff in collaboration with the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group, with the support of the FS Foundation and the Mission Structure for the enhancement of national anniversaries and the participatory dimension of the new generations, thus returns to commemorate this anniversary with a new itinerary in compliance with a parliamentary measure of last year.

The main objective is to continue to disseminate and nurture the cult of memory in the youngest, keeping alive the memory of all the Fallen who, with their sacrifice, have contributed to building national unity and the concept of the Fatherland.

The train journey intends to ideally unite all of Italy and all Italians, involving the different generations not to celebrate the myth of war but to remember the sacrifice of those who today, as then, gave their lives for the country.

The press conference was held by Division General Alfonso Manzo, Head of the V Department of General Affairs of the Defense Staff, by the Director General of the State Railways Foundation Engineer Luigi Cantamessa and by Dr. Paolo Vicchiarello of the Mission Structure for the enhancement of anniversaries and the participatory dimension of the new generations of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The historic train set up by the FS Italiane Foundation and the Railway Engineers Regiment is composed of a Gr. 740 steam locomotive, a 1926 trunk, a K wagon, two "Centoporte" carriages, a "Centoporte a salon" carriage, a "Carnera" wagon ”, A first class carriage Az 10.000, a“ Grillo ”carriage, a couchette car type“ 1957 T ”and a diesel locomotive. A commemorative exhibition will also be set up at each stage.

The "Train of Memory" divided into 17 stages and 100 hours of travel, will cross 730 stations and will involve 270 railway workers.
