Helicopter of the 15th Wing recovers a missing hiker on Mount Terminillo

During the night an HH139B of the Italian Air Force, which took off from the 85th Search and Rescue Center in Pratica di Mare, intervened for the search and rescue of an injured boy

Around 23pm last night, an HH139B helicopter from the 85th SAR Center of the 15th Wing took off from the military airport of Pratica di Mare for a Search and Rescue mission on Mount Terminillo.

The Air Force crew, at the request of the CNSAS Lazio (National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps), reached the young man - in the meantime identified by the CNSAS ground teams - carrying out, at around 2000 meters of altitude, the recovery of the hiker with the aid of the winch with which the Air Force helicopter is equipped. The boy was then transported to the San Camillo de Lellis Hospital in Rieti and entrusted to the care of healthcare personnel.

The helicopter then returned to the Pratica di Mare base to resume its operational readiness service around 3pm last night.

The 15th Wing of the Air Force guarantees, 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, without interruption, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, also contributing to public utility activities such as research of those missing at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of patients in imminent danger of life and the rescue of seriously traumatized patients, also operating in extreme weather conditions. From its establishment to today, the crews of the 365th Wing have saved approximately 15 people in danger of their lives. Since 7800, the Department has acquired the AIB (Forest Firefighting) capability, contributing to the prevention and fight against fires throughout the national territory as part of the joint force device implemented by the Defense.
